The California Institute for Nursing & Health Care builds coalitions and partnerships to develop projects in several program areas that address the nursing shortage and other nursing issues:

  • Educational Capacity -  CINHC's development of Master Plan Goal 1 (Building Educational Capacity), Goal 2 (Increasing Diversity), and the Bay Area Nursing Resource Center,  are examples of how CINHC is making a difference in the state's ability to develop an adequate nursing workforce.

  • Leadership Development - Preparing nurse managers for leadership roles. To learn about becoming a clinical educator visit the Leadership Development page.
  • Recruitment - Increasing the nursing workforce, recuriting men in to the profession, and assuring a culturally diverse workforce.

  • Master Plan Development - CINHC is leading statewide efforts to develop a comprehensive statewide plan to guide efforts in six strategic focus areas.
  • Statewide Simulation Alliance - CINHC is leading the Statewide Simulation Alliance (SSA).  The purpose of the SSA is to become a cohesive voice for simulation in nursing education, to disseminate information to stakeholders, to create a common language, to be a voice for simulation in Sacramento and to facilitate state funding for simulation use and expansion. A steering committee with members from schools of nursing and hospitals has been formed and monthly conference calls are planned.

SSA goals include providing a home within CINHC for best practice identification, information sharing, faculty development, equipment/vendor pricing agreements, space planning, scenario development, sharing and partnership models.

A monthly newsletter and list serve are being developed so key information can be disseminated.  Additionally, a survey is being conducted to develop an inventory of schools and hospitals using simulation as a teaching methodology.

Anyone interested in receiving the SSA newsletter or becoming a part of the Alliance should contact KT Waxman at kt@cinhc.org.
